gMum... how I became a cloth diapering Mum

When I found out I was pregnant with LO the search had begun. The best stroller, the best car seat, the best bedding, the best swaddling blanket, bath tub, butt paste… OK you get the idea. I’m a bit of a researcher. I will not buy anything on a whim. I must find out, who has it? How well does it work? and is it the best option for me? I take pride in the fact that I literally research everything to death before ever stepping foot in a store to check it out. Drives my family crazy I know but with all this information at my fingertips, why not? Besides I have saved a boat load of money not making “mistake” purchases. So when it came to figuring out which diaper would wrap LO’s bum I couldn’t resist researching.
A few pregnancy magazines had pictures of the gDiapers and I believe that is where I fell in love. I had never seen, let alone, used a cloth diaper. I was very in the dark about this whole venture but I knew it was love at first sight. First of all why bother with those ugly, bad for baby, dumpy dipes covered in cartoon characters I cannot stand. Especially when I could cover the bum in something so adorable and great for the environment. Who I am kidding, the environment, although I do love mother earth and the bounty she has blessed us with, she is not my motivation here. It was really all about the cuteness and saving some green. The Hubs and I knew I would stay home for a bit  after LO was born and saving some green would definitely help. All the more money to shop for more cuteness of course.
I had stumbled upon a few very helpful cloth diapering sites such as www.cottonbabies.com, www.nappyshoppe.com, and  www.gDiapers.com. All, of course, are websites covered in loads of information and a full gathering of cute colorful bum covers! I had hit the jackpot. And from there I researched all options; flats, fitteds, AIO, AI2, pockets, one size, perfect size, contours, organic, and hybrids. The options are endless as you can see. Not at all the cloth diapering world I thought had existed before my research. I will admit, I am sure at one time or another before I was pregnant and someone mentioned cloth diaper to me I immediately pictured that free-loving, tree-hugger, hybrid-driving, granola eating hippie. I have come along way since then! Haha.
After seven+ months of research a purchase was made at the local baby boutique and after that, it was all over. First, I bought a starter pack that had included two gPants, four liners, a package of disposable; flushable inserts;and a “swish stick”. I had decided that I should probably start off small and build my stash slowly. Once I had seen the quality of the product in hand and the unlimited options it had I discontinued my search.
gDiapers offer a hybrid option for those mums and dads out there that have no idea what they are getting themselves into. It is the perfect bridge from to disposable to cloth. You see, they can be used as a cloth diaper with the gCloth option or you can use the handy 100% biodegradable option called the gRefill. The gRefills are basically a disposable diaper(w/o the icky chemicals) that has the ability to be composted, tossed, or flushed! For me it was a perfect fit. I did not love the idea of lugging around an icky cloth diaper in my diaper bag. This way wherever the change happened I had options… flush or toss. As I have grown into a knowledgeable cloth diapering mum I now know of the wonders of a wet bag for such instances as to have an icky cloth diaper to store. Baby steps…. baby steps.
LO is fourteen months now and we have been cloth diapering since the beginning. I am in love with my gDiapers and I spend lots of time trying to convince other mums out there to take a shot with cloth. Www.gdiapers.com has an extensive info page for mums to get started. Without this I would have never known what to do. They even have videos.

LO learns the word "No"

It’s official. There’s a shake of the head and out comes a soft sweet “No”. I am sure soon enough this “no” will develop into a stearn, snappy “NO!” Until then I will enjoy my small very polite little person. Here’s to hoping it will last a bit longer.
